Continuing from Australia 2017
Sunday night we flew to Beijing. Airbus 330. 2x4x2. Chinese family was mad that Leigh wanted her assigned seat. So was flight attendant. Slept okay. Beijing airport is massive. It took two hours in line to get a 144-hr Visa, but we did, and got to the hotel, a very nice Renaissance Hotel walking distance from the Forbidden City, at 8:10a. Our tour driver was already there and we took off with him at 8:30a for the Great Wall of China.
Saturday, we walked around the inside and way outside (at the south exit we were told to use the West Exit) the Forbidden City and Tienamen Square. Sunday, we swam at the hotel pool, and headed to the airport for a 3:00p flight to Los Angeles. 777. Few empty seats. Very uncomfortable sleep (1 hr at beginning and 2hr at end). Arrived in Los Angeles at 11:30a. About twenty miles south of the Airport on the 405, I realized that I left a backpack in the E-Z Rental parking lot. It had the one thing I really really really needed from the trip: the un-backedup videos from the Scuba Diving. I turned around. Turns out the car slot (#31) was adjacent to the Airport Shuttle waiting area. No backpack. Rental agents: no knowledge of backpack. Lost and Found room: two OTHER backpacks. Damn, it had the underwater imagery on a chip in it. "Let's try the manager." He had it. Yeah! Home. Costco. Fish Shop PB. Ceviche. Champagne and Martinellis at Midnight. Welcome 2018! Today. Awoke at 11:15a. Returned rental car, played tennis. Watched the OU-UGA and UA-Clemson semifinals. Wrote this. A good day. A good month. |
